In order to present intersex in a tangible and comprehensible way, the author and graphic designer Carolin Fritzsche has designed a handbook that deals with definitions, explains technical terms and makes a discourse on intersex in the binary system comprehensible.
This graphically elaborate volume offers - besides an overview of forms of medical interventions - a detailed description of the political-legal situation as well as a compilation of associations and organisations that advocate for the rights of intersex people.
Due to the clear structures of the design and the layout, the issue seems more like an indie magazine than an educational book. Content facts were written in cooperation with the association Intersexuelle Menschen e.V. and the organisation "Die dritte Option". The handbook stands for breaking the silence and making intersex people visible, letting them come out of the shadows into the foreground of social perception and discourse.
Carolin Fritzsche (born 1990 in Gera) is a graphic designer and completed her Master's degree in "Intermedial Design" at the Bauhaus in Dessau. She has been living in Berlin since 2017 and works as a project manager in the area of corporate design in the General Secretariat and Presidium of the German Red Cross. With her clear and structured design, she creates the basis for conveying and communicating messages in a comprehensible way.
